Translating to 'Drop of Honey,' Pingo de Mel lives up to its name with golden green fruit and a luscious, honey-sweet amber to red interior. This Portuguese variety is gaining popularity in the U.S. for its exceptional flavor and early ripening habit. The fruit is small to medium, soft, and nearly syrup-filled when fully ripe. Highly ornamental as well, with graceful branching and lush tropical foliage. Like all figs, it's a source of calcium, fiber, and potassium. Also like all figs, its fiber content reduces its glycemic index to very little. Performs well in-ground or in containers. Well worth zone pushing.
