A top choice for late-season blackberries, Chester produces heavy yields right after Triple Crown slows down (August) and keeps going until frost. Large, glossy black fruit with good firmness and rich, sweet flavor. Known for excellent shelf life and disease resistance, especially to cane blight and root rot which can be an issue in heavier soils. This variety is extremely cold-hardy for a thornless blackberry and ideal for fresh eating, jam, or freezing. Berries are high in fiber, vitamin C, and anthocyanins. Plants are semi-erect and benefit from a simple trellis to support their heavy fruit load. Dependable and productive, even in marginal soils.
